Tomatoes - lots of flowers but no fruit. Why?

I bought three tomato plants (%26quot;Tumbler%26quot;)in May from a garden centre. They have grown well and are all covered in flowers. But there is no sign of any tomatoes, and now the flowers are starting to die and fall.


What has happened? Is there anything I can do?

Check where the flower used to be. If you see a tiny green ball, then you%26#039;ll have tomatoes soon. If there isn%26#039;t anything there, then it probably is a problem with over or under watering. Or stress from being moved or transplanted.


The flowers have to be pollinated with an insect, usually bees. I%26#039;m assuming if they are outdoors then there%26#039;s no problem with that.
Reply:You must feed them with Tomatorite liquid fertiliser once a week. Start now and you may be just in time to save the plants. They are very early though, are they in a greenhouse?


You wouldn%26#039;t normally expect fruits til July/August time.


They also need lots sun and heat, and we don%26#039;t get an awful lot of that in th U.K.
Reply:The tomatoes will start to grow now that the flowers have started to fall off and you will hopefully have more that you know what to do with
Reply:Could it be that you are over or under watering them and killing them? Call the garden center and ask what you should do. They can help.
Reply:I have read somewhere that you should shake your tomato plants when they are blooming. This helps to pollinate the flowers and helps set more fruit.

Reply:Make sure you gently %26#039;flick%26#039; or shake the flowers when they open to help pollination.
Reply:Slimjim123 is right. Try using a cotton bud (loosen the tip) and lightly brush the inside of all the flowers. That way we can be sure pollination will take place. ( Of course, we are doing the job of the bees.)
Reply:That is what happens - now the tomato%26#039;s will grow from where the flowers have fallen off, your lucky mine have not even got flowers yet!
Reply:are you sure they are tomato plants?that guy in the garden center is ok selling u them but wont or cant give u any advice, i think he has had u over, to be honest with you i didnt know tomato plants grew flowers, just leaves!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:The flower petals fall off as the fruit develops. If no fruit develop than there could be a number of problems poor pollination low water levels being two. Lightly tap the plants when they are in flower this helps with pollination you can also pollinate using a small artist%26#039;s brush or rabbit foot. Water level, tomatoes are gross feeders and need a lot of water and fertiliser to complete the cycle of seed, plant ,fruit ,seed
Reply:the flowers petals fall off and this turns into a tiny fruit which grows into the tomato you would expect to see, loads of flowers = loads of tomatoes
Reply:that%26#039;s ok. the flowers will wither and die and you%26#039;ll get loads of little fruit underneith them. your plants sound like you%26#039;ll get a really good crop....nice one !!!
Reply:dont worry that what happens ur tomatoes will start to grow now its normal just feed them with tomatoe feed and they will do well and dont forget to water as they like it
